The Behavioral Testing facility use and service will be charged as follows, depending on the scope of the work.

Service
UH Researchers
Non-UH Researchers
Technical Service $80/hr $125/hr
Equipment/Room Use $40/hr Not available
Consultation $125/hr $175/hr
Training for specific tasks $40/hr TBD

If the work is largely collaborative, the fees may be waived.

For all investigators and staff, use will only be allowed after certified training. In addition, users must be part of an approved IACUC protocol and have had basic animal training as required by University of Hawaii Biosafety. Under an approved protocol, investigators must obtain and house animals prior to testing. Animals must be obtained from approved vendors or transferred within UH via LAS. Animals obtained from outside of UH will have to go through quarantine. Animals will be transferred to the hotels in the testing facility for acclimatization prior to testing.

For use or service, the Core staff will be available to assist investigators and staff in all aspects of behavioral testing, including power analysis for determining animal numbers, suggestions for genetic background and experimental design, and data analysis and interpretation. The staff can also help with training and/or set up for surgeries for stereotaxic cannulation.

The Electrophysiology facility use and service will be charged in a similar fashion.

Use will only be allowed after certified training. Investigators supplying animals for slice preparation must have an approved IACUC protocol. For users, initial training will focus on slice preparation. Once mastered, training on use of the extracellular recording equipment will be provided. (Hands-on use will largely be restricted to the multi-electrode array system.)

For use or service, the Core staff will be available to assist investigators and staff in experimental design, data analysis and interpretation.
